Description

VetOne BoviBlock is a non-antibiotic internal teat sealant designed for dry cow mastitis prevention. Formulated with 65% bismuth subnitrate in a mineral oil base, it creates a malleable barrier inside the teat canal to help prevent bacteria from entering the udder during the dry period.

By mimicking the cow’s natural keratin plug, BoviBlock provides physical protection against environmental mastitis pathogens from dry-off until calving. This makes it a valuable tool for mastitis prevention in dry cows and fresh cow udder health.

Because BoviBlock contains no antimicrobial ingredients, proper teat cleaning and infusion technique are critical. It can be used alone or as part of a dry cow therapy protocol, including selective dry cow therapy programs aimed at reducing antibiotic use while maintaining udder health.

The dry period is one of the highest-risk times for new intramammary infections. Cows are especially vulnerable immediately after dry-off and again in the days leading up to calving.

BoviBlock helps prevent mastitis by:

  • Forming a physical barrier in the teat canal
  • Blocking environmental bacteria from entering the udder
  • Protecting cows that fail to develop a natural keratin plug
  • Supporting dry cow mastitis prevention throughout the entire dry period
  • Reducing the risk of fresh cow mastitis, including early lactation E. coli infections

Directions for Use

For use in non-lactating dairy cattle only.

  1. After the final milking at dry-off, thoroughly clean and disinfect each teat using the alcohol wipes provided.
  2. Allow teats to dry completely.
  3. Gently pinch the base of the teat near the udder attachment.
  4. Insert the nozzle into the teat canal.
  5. Infuse the entire contents of one syringe into each quarter.
  6. Do not massage the teat or udder after infusion.

BoviBlock must remain in the teat canal to be effective.

Removal at Freshening

BoviBlock should be removed manually before the first milking after calving.

Application Notes

  • A clean, dry, disinfected teat is essential because BoviBlock has no antimicrobial activity.
  • Short-tip insertion (partial insertion) is preferred to reduce the risk of introducing mastitis-causing bacteria.
  • Full insertion may be necessary for cows with larger teat openings.
  • If accidentally infused into a lactating cow, the sealant can be stripped out by hand.
  • If used with dry cow antibiotics, follow all milk and meat withdrawal times for the antibiotic product.
